Welcome Race Fans

Yesterday was Robbie's Pinewood Derby. Every car ran four heats and Robbie was second twice and third twice so he didn't win a trophy. His best friend did though and it was cute to see how excited Robbie got for him! A lot better reaction than two years ago when he grumbled "Well, this was a waste of time." when he didn't win! But he also got the ol' Mom lecture of how it's not about winning, he spent time with Dad "building" his car, and learned new things, etc, etc that year so he probably remembers it and didn't want to hear it again! lol

It was a little different than in Kansas but they did have a neat computer system here that projected a screen onto the wall that showed the racers in each heat, their lane position and then their finishing time. In Kansas they had a wooden track and the one here seemed more like those old tongue-n-groove plastic Hot Wheels tracks. (Which when you get swatted with one of those things it HURTS! My brother and I were always so loving towards each other!)

Katie complained of being bored and after a couple of times of hearing it I told her that Robbie had been bored at her choir concert and would be at her band concert in a couple of weeks too. She looked highly offended! Then when I said that the derby was as important to Robbie as those things were to her she managed to look a little chagrined. Then she was attempting to change the subject! Kids, gotta love'em!
